“Nothing Gold Can Stay” tells the story of Zhou Ying, a legendary businesswoman in the late Qing.
“Nothing Gold Can Stay” is based on the legendary true story of Zhou Ying and the Wu family of Anwu Town, in Jingyang County, Shaanxi Province. Zhou Ying, a witty and fun street performer, accidentally gets married with Wu Pin, the young master of the prominent Wu family. Unfortunately, Wu Pin dies shortly after they marry, and the widowed Zhou Ying becomes embroiled in all sorts of intrigues and conflicts within the Wu family. In spite of her emotional turmoil and family strife, Zhou Ying relies solely on her willpower and acumen and manages to master the art of business. She singlehandedly leads the collapsed business of the Wu family through the cutthroat business world and corrupt politics, not only bringing the Wu family back to glory, but also turning it into a business empire. “Nothing Gold Can Stay” looks back at the inspirational legend of this unlikely businesswoman, and portrays a sentimental picture of China at the time. It follows the emotional journey that Zhou Ying undertakes as a woman, starting as a young girl and transforming into the unprecedented businesswoman of the highest caliber in the late Qing. It's a journey not only about youth, growing up and maturing, but also about love, responsibility and justice.
